About Us Dave with Ring-Tailed Lemurs at
Chester Zoo
For as long as I can remember, animals and birds have always been an important part of my life. I had my first pet rabbit and budgie at the age of 5, and from then on I wanted to be a zoo keeper, and 45 years later I achieved that ambition with a City & Guilds in Zoo Animal Management after 4 years experience at Chester Zoo.
During the intervening years I have kept many kinds of animals and birds. I spent many years breeding and showing exotic birds and parrots with much success, and undertook many judging engagements around the country. Caring for animals is, and always has been a pleasure and a privilidge, For 10 years, since 2000, I was a volunteer at Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre and Bird of Prey Hospital in Staffordshire assisting with the care of the resident birds and animals and the maintenance of the centre itself. During the last 6 years there, I undertook fund raising static bird of prey displays all over the country until 2010.
My experience has been gained over 50 years and my animal collection has included primates, bats, snakes, prairie dogs, ring-tailed coati mundi, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, chipmunks and birds of all kinds. I had to register with, and was inspected by the local council and held a Wild Animal Licence and have taken and gained an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service.
I was fortunate when I went on holiday, to have a reliable family member living at home who would care for my pets. For many people this is not possible, so I have started Moorland Small Pet Hotel to put my passion for animals into practice and provide high quality pet care for pet owners in Staffordshire while they are away, at the lowest possible costs, giving them piece of mind that their much loved pets are being looked after to the highest standards.
We are pleased to use CHURNET VALLEY VETERINARY CLINIC for our animal health care.
